Scott Stonechild

Scott's forte lays in drawing which are reflected through his painting. He has felt that writing and painting are two elements of aboriginal culture.
He comes from the Saulteaux nation of Muscowpetung First Nation in southern Saskatchewan. He moved with his family to Regina when he was two years old.
Scott developed his perception of Indian Art by developing a home based company, Nechi Art to preserve the integrity of his elders teachings. He has done murals with his sons in Saskatoon and Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. His family has been involved with the arts in North America for twenty years. His older brother Warren had been a painter when Indians were in an identity struggle. Warren passed away in 1979 when Scott was 15 years old. Scott, and his late sister Sherry became involved with the arts at an early age.
In 1985, Scott was hired at the Citadel Theatre in Edmonton, Canada as a theatre technician. He then went into T.V. production where he was hired at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
Scott received an art scholarship from Keyano College, Alberta in 1994 from Syncrude Canada and completed his degree in Studio Art at the University of Saskatchewan in 2003.
