David John Pawson

I have had an on going love of the arts since childhood. In my early school years painting and sketching and crafts brought much joy into my life and I availed myself of every opportunity to learn more. I took art classes and was art editor of the high school yearbook, creating a mural for the school as well.
The Alberta College of Art and Design night school gave me an opportunity to study sketching, painting, and sculpture during a period of over twenty years. I took courses in various media, oil, acrylic, and watercolour, advancing from elementary to advanced classes and later work shops.
I studied under such artists as Illingworth Kerr, George Anglis, George Mihalcheon, John Coleman, Frank Palmer, and Richard Haliday to name a few. These people were a source of direction and inspiration.
I was a member of the Continuing Arts Association for seven years and exhibited, rented and sold paintings with this group.
The N.C.A. group at St. Davids's church and the Artisan's Fair in Calgary were other outlets for my work.
Charitable auctions sponsored by such organizations as Mustard Seed, Rotary Club, Calgary Winter Club, and a number of churches, benefited from the sale of my paintings.
I was astonished, while on holiday, to be greeted by a painting of mine in a bed and breakfast in St. John, New Brunswick. It had been purchased at a charitable auction in Calgary.
A deli along a riverside boulevard was another market for my brush work.
Becoming an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists has been another challenging outlet for me as an artist. I have exhibited with F.C.A. at various locations such as Bankers Hall, Gulf Canada, Bow Valley Square, City Hall, and Leighton Centre to name a few.
Painting continues to be a compelling focus in my life.
