Janice Schlosser
Janice Schlosser resides and has her studio a few miles north of Punnichy in the Touchwood Hills. Painting and drawing have been an important part of her life and she has been pursuing her own art career in a disciplined way for the past 10 years. Involvement with the artist's group that meets regularly at Studio 744 has been a pivotal element that sustains that growth.
She has taken extension credit classes from the University of Saskatchwan in Yorkton, Wynyard, and Raymore and has several classes left to complete her Bachelor of Fine Arts. Influential instructors have been Gerald Smith, Tom O'Flannigan, Grant McConnell and Terry Billings. She has also attended the Emma Lake campus. Also formative in her growth were classes from the Extension Division from the University of Regina and the Neil Balkwill Center.
Janice's work was selected to travel with OSAC's Saskatchewan Exhibition for 2 years and work was also selected for the Rosemont Gallery's 25th anniversary. She has participated in group art shows around Saskatchewan and has a private show and sale in Saskatoon.
As a prairie artist, Janice is naturally inspired by the spirit of the landscape, beauty of the skies, and the intricacies of the teeming plant life often overlooked when walking around Saskatchewan. Although predominantly a realistic painter, she has often done more imaginative abstract works that attempt to capture more of the soul, spirit and sense of space of that landscape.
